Bulk Change Outlook Contacts by Export and Import
For Outlook 2013 Windows Client three basic steps are involved;
- Export the Contacts to a CSV file,
- Edit the CSV file with Search and Replace
- Import the CSV file back into your Contacts
Export Contacts
On the Outlook menu, click File, click Open & Export > Import / Export
Select “Export to a file”, then Next:
Select “Comma Separated Values”, then Next:
Select Contacts folder, then Next:
Enter a Path and Filename:
Then Finish, and wait until it completes. This will take a while and will prevent any other user operation.
Edit the CSV File
Open the Exported Contacts CSV file with Excel.
Delete the lines of contacts you don’t want to edit. For example, leave only ones where Company=SD41.
Find and Replace all @sd41.bc.ca with @burnabyschools.ca:
Save and Close the file, retaining the same format.
Import CSV File into Contacts
On the Outlook menu, click File, click Open & Export > Import / Export
Select “Import from another program or file”:
Select “Comma Separated Values”, then Next:
Select “Replace duplicates with items imported”, then Next:
Select Contacts folder as destination:
Then Finish, and wait until it completes. This will take a while and will prevent any other user operation.
